BMW‘s recently introduced electric car, the iX3, exceeded range expectations, managing to surpass 1,000 km on a single charge during a drive on public roads.
The second-generation iX3, introduced a few months ago, boasts an 800 km range according to WLTP standards. However, in a real-world test on open roads, the electric SUV succeeded in exceeding the 1,000 km mark on a single charge.
A Journey from Hungary to Munich

BMW assigned a small team to test the limits of its new model built on the next-generation electric vehicle platform Neue Klasse. This team took the iX3 from the Debrecen factory in Hungary, where it is produced, on a journey toward BMW‘s headquarters in Munich.
The team successfully completed the 1,007 km route on a single charge. Moreover, when the journey ended, the vehicle still had 2% charge remaining. This theoretically means they could have traveled approximately 20 km more.
How Did the Team Achieve This?

As expected, the team did everything possible to extend the iX3’s range. For example, they avoided highways during the trip, opting for lower-speed roads where the vehicle’s regenerative braking system would be most effective.
Additionally, instead of the optional 21 or 22-inch wheels, smaller 20-inch wheels were used on the tested vehicle. To reduce energy consumption, features like air conditioning, the heating system, and the radio were kept off.

BMW performed the drive with the iX3 50 xDrive model, which is the only version announced for now. This version produces 463 horsepower with its dual electric motors and completes the 0-100 km/h acceleration in 4.7 seconds. The vehicle also features a significantly large battery pack with a capacity of 108.7 kWh.
